Domínico Americano School 

We offer the levels of primary and secondary education in English, we are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and School (SACS) of the United States and the Education ministry (MEE) of the Dominican Republic, teaches Spanish as their mother tongue; History also Dominican, Moral and Civic.

 School Curricular Activities Marathon

Marathon (2nd or 3rd Saturday of November)

On Saturday a second or third Saturday of November, at 8:30 a.m., the Dominico-Americano School organizes its traditional Marathon at the North Mirador Park.  

Twenty five to thirty schools are invited to participate with school athletes in one of eight categories:

  • 8-9 year olds (KM 1)
  • 10-11- year old (KM 2)
  • 12-14 year old (KM 3)
  • 15-16 year old (KM 4)

For a grand total of 500 boys and girls.

Coaches from the thirty schools invited, attend an orientation prior to the marathon.

A list with the category registered and copy of school ID and birth certificates must be submitted, one week prior to the event. The athletes run with the given runner number, placed on the chest of the T-shirt.   See slide #3 to 6
The runners must sign in at the table assigned for each category.  The first 15 runners per category to arrive at the FINISH LINE will be given numbers for their arrival position and running time and only the first 5 runners receive awards.   See slide #12

Available for a quick cooling of the athletes is a portal shower system.

Each school may win one of the 5 positions per category and accumulates points for the first three schools’s receiving the marathon school trophy. Below we show the trophy and medals for students winning one of the first 5 positions.

School members welcome the runners and families to the event.

Award Ceremonies
During the month of January we hold the Marathon award ceremony. The winners’ list hand in by the judges is further validated with the film, and review of reports by the schools.  The schools are invited to attend the ceremony held at 6:00 p.m. in the Patrick Hughson Auditorium. Trophies for the individual winning athlete, first three schools with the highest accumulative points and certificates for all the schools participating are handed out.
