On the occasion of “Juneteenth”, an event commemorating the emancipation of African-American slaves, the United States Embassy in Santo Domingo, together with our institution, held a film discussion on the movie “12 Years a Slave”.

The welcoming remarks were given by the Director of the Lincoln Library, Ms. Nélida Cairo. Gabriel Hurst, spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo, participated as moderator of the event, in which he held a dialogue with the audience about the importance of creating alliances to promote social change, as well as the role we can all play in the fight against socioeconomic exclusion to create more equitable and inclusive societies.
