Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano hosts MaCo Expo 2022

After 2 years of being held online due to the pandemic, MaCo Expo, an event focused on the publication and exhibition of new comic book talents in the Dominican Republic, was back in person.

For this year’s 9th edition, the event was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo and Dirección Cultural of Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano, institutions that represent one of the most influential nations in the history of the ninth art.

The writing and comics category was retaken so that participants could show the world the great creative capacity that exists in the Dominican Republic, as well as to highlight that both writing and drawing go hand in hand in this medium. The ” Pasa la página” (Turn the page) that were made digitally during 2020 and 2021 were also published in print, available free of charge to the authors who participated and to the general public. In total, 9 comics and 3 brand new written stories were published.

For the talks there was the participation of Yeruvelis García Martínez as MaCo guest artist, the guys from DOMCOMICs, a video interview with American comic artist Eric Childs who is also the owner of Mind ìs Eye Comic, the only comic store owned by an African descendant in the state of Minnesota, as well as a live video chat with Ariel Suero, outstanding Dominican visual effects artist for Marvel and Sony movies.
