UNICDA participates in TESOL 2025 in Long Beach, California

The Universidad Domínico Americano (UNICDA) had an outstanding participation in TESOL 2025, one of the most important international events dedicated to innovation and professional development in teaching English as a second language.
This global gathering brought together experts, institutions, and educational leaders committed to the continuous improvement of teaching practices. UNICDA was part of this transformative experience alongside a commission of professionals in the field of education, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and the strengthening of strategic alliances.
Among the attendees were Giseh Cuesta, Director of Foreign Languages at MESCYT; Zomnia Schott, Academic Officer of MESCYT’s Immersion Program; and Ligia Henríquez, Head of Foreign Languages at MINERD, all reaffirming their dedication to academic excellence.
From UNICDA, participants included Professor Solangel Meléndez; Karlans Camacho, Coordinator of Projects and Programs at the Teacher Development Center; Gledis Libert, Academic Coordinator of the School of Languages; Joyce Calderón, Coordinator of Junior Programs; and Mr. Luis Marrero, Evaluation Coordinator of the Directorate of Quality Assurance.
During the event, UNICDA representatives exchanged experiences, knowledge, and best practices with professionals from around the world, thereby strengthening institutional strategies for teacher training and foreign language teaching in the country.
This participation not only reaffirms UNICDA’s leadership in the educational field but also opens new opportunities for international collaboration, methodological updates, and professional growth.
The Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano opens a new branch of its Language School in La Vega

The Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano (ICDA) celebrated the inauguration of its new Language School branch in the city of La Vega, as part of its strategic academic expansion plan and commitment to teaching the English language.
The inaugural event brought together institutional authorities, collaborators, students, representatives of the local educational community, and provincial leaders, who enthusiastically attended the opening of this new educational space located at the Eugenio María de Hostos School on García Godoy Avenue.
The central speech of the event was delivered by Eng. Ramón Sosa, Executive Director of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano, who highlighted the significance of this new branch as part of ICDA’s commitment to educational excellence and the development of key competencies in a globalized world.
“This step we are taking today in La Vega represents a commitment to the talent of our people, their ability to communicate beyond borders, and their right to an education that opens doors,” said Eng. Sosa. “With this new branch, we reaffirm our vocation of service, bringing learning opportunities closer to more communities in our country.”
The Language School of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano stands out for its communicative approach, highly qualified teaching staff, and updated programs for children, adolescents, and adults, aligned with international standards in teaching English as a second language.
The blessing of the new administrative and academic offices was conducted by Reverend Father Francisco Antonio Jiménez Rosario from the Immaculate Conception Cathedral of La Vega.
With this opening, the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano continues to strengthen its national presence, with branches in the National District, Santo Domingo Este, Santo Domingo Norte, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, Higüey, Baní, San Francisco de Macorís, Puerto Plata, and now in La Vega. These, along with its virtual programs, provide thousands of students with the opportunity to transform their lives through learning the English language.
The Dominican-American Cultural Institute names its Student Plaza in honor of Mrs. Engracia Franjul de Abate

The Dominican-American Cultural Institute (ICDA) held a heartfelt event to name the institution’s Student Plaza in honor of Mrs. Engracia Franjul de Abate, recognizing her invaluable dedication, work, love for education, and commitment to the institution over the course of 38 years.
The event was led by Mrs. Darys Estrella, President of the ICDA Board of Directors, who delivered the welcome speech. In her address, she highlighted Mrs. Engracia Franjul de Abate’s career, emphasizing her commitment to education and tireless work in empowering underprivileged communities. “Her legacy is a testament to a life dedicated to service, education, and social transformation,” Estrella expressed.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished individuals, including members of the ICDA Board of Directors, family and friends of Mrs. Engracia Franjul de Abate, as well as collaborators and members of the educational community.
As part of the tribute, Mrs. Elizabeth de Windt, who served as Executive Director of the Dominican-American Cultural Institute from 1991 to 2013, presented a portrait of Mrs. Engracia Franjul de Abate. Later, the commemorative plaque was unveiled, officially designating the ICDA Student Plaza with her name.
Mr. Frank Abate, representing the family, gave an emotional speech of gratitude, highlighting his mother’s love and commitment to education and the community.
The ceremony concluded with an invitation for attendees to enjoy an exhibition featuring Salvador and Engracia de Abate’s pictographic collection in the institution’s Exhibition Hall.
Through this designation, the Dominican-American Cultural Institute pays eternal tribute to a visionary and exemplary woman whose impact will continue to inspire future generations of students and professionals.
A night of excitement and pride in the commemoration of the 181st anniversary of the Independence of the Dominican Republic

On February 26th, we experienced an unforgettable evening in commemoration of the 181st anniversary of the Independence of the Dominican Republic. We deeply thank everyone who joined us on this night filled with music, emotion, and pride, during which the ICDA Men’s Choir and Mixed Choir delivered a performance brimming with talent and passion.
The night took on an even more special tone when former members of both groups reunited on stage, celebrating 36 years of the choir’s history and tradition. This heartfelt reunion reminded us of the importance of honoring our roots and continuing to build upon the cultural legacy of those who, through their dedication and talent, have kept this tradition alive.
During the evening, we had the honor of paying a well-deserved tribute to Lorenzo Minaya, who has served the choir for 36 uninterrupted years. His legacy and commitment were applauded by all present, who recognized his dedication and contribution to strengthening the musical culture of our country.
It was a night filled with profound emotions, where music connected us to our history, our independence, and our identity as a people. We feel very proud to have shared this special moment with all those in attendance.

The Theater Workshop of the Dominican-American Cultural Institute presents its play Talking About the Homelan

This past February 25th, the audience who attended the presentation of Talking About the Homeland experienced a unique and unforgettable evening, where art, reflection, and emotion came together. The collective play, staged by the Theater Workshop of the ICDA through its Cultural Directorate and its School of Art and Culture, provided a space to explore and rethink our identity, the values that define us, and the deep meaning of being part of a nation.
Under the direction of the renowned Jorge Santiago, head of the workshop, the production delved into a reflection on our history and present, inviting attendees to question and debate the concept of homeland, a topic so relevant in these times. Through the voices and performances of the talented members of the ICDA Theater Workshop, the play allowed the audience to connect with our essence as a society and with the ideals that unite us.
Moreover, the evening featured a moving tribute to two fundamental pillars of the ICDA Theater Workshop’s history. Firstly, a well-deserved recognition was given to Jorge Santiago for his 25 years of uninterrupted dedication to theater, highlighting his tireless work in artistic creation and his invaluable influence on the cultural scene of our community. He truly serves as a driving force of creativity and reflection within the ICDA’s cultural space.
Likewise, homage was paid to Yvelisse Suncar, who, with 36 years of commitment and passion for theater, has been a key figure within the group. Her love and dedication to the art have left a lasting impact on generations of artists and spectators, leaving an indelible mark on the local theater scene.
The evening, filled with emotion and gratitude, concluded with applause, smiles, and heartfelt thanks for being part of an event that celebrates not only art but also the values that unite us as a nation. Pepperdine University students in California explore Dominican cuisine in our Culinary Space

On Saturday, February 15th, a group of students from Pepperdine University, located in California, USA, visited our Culinary Space with the purpose of exploring the richness of Dominican gastronomy. The experience, designed to immerse the young people in the culinary culture of the country, was led by the renowned chef Miguelina Galán, who shared her knowledge and secrets about the traditional flavors of the Dominican Republic.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to learn about the ingredients, cooking techniques, and the history behind the most representative dishes of the island, all while enjoying a variety of exquisite preparations.
We thank Pepperdine University for their interest in learning about and valuing our culture. Their visit not only allowed us to share our gastronomic tradition but also to strengthen ties and foster understanding between different cultures. They will always be welcome in our space!
“1st INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND MULTICULTURALISM CONGRESS 2024”

The 1st International Business and Multiculturalism Congress celebrated its first edition with great success, addressing key topics for the economic development of the Dominican Republic and its integration into global trade. The event, organized by the Universidad Domínico Americana (UNICDA) and the Dominican Association of Professionals in International Business and Related Fields (ADOPNIA), took place in an atmosphere of collaboration and learning, with the participation of renowned experts from various fields, both local and international.
During the congress, attendees had the opportunity to listen to in-depth analyses on the Dominican Republic’s logistics hub, customs and port management, and international economic relations—issues crucial to the country’s development. One of the most notable moments was the opening panel, titled “Trade Relations between the United States of America and the Dominican Republic with Impact on Multiculturalism and the Economy of Both Countries,” led by Mr. Enrique Fernández, a member of the board of directors of the Dominican-American Cultural Institute.
The event also featured high-level experts and officials, such as Gabriel Mascaro, Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Relations (MIREX); Silvestre Enmanuel Lora, Head of Relations with Haiti at MIREX; Juan Lorenzo Castillo, Head of the Green Customs Department at the General Customs Directorate (DGA); Manuel De Jesús Crisanty, Technical Director of Port Authority; Giselle Rodríguez Escofe, Director of Planning and Development at JABIL; Mirla Solano, Customer Service Manager at DP World; and Antonio Ciriaco Cruz, Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at UASD, who enriched the session with their interventions on the challenges and opportunities facing the logistics and customs sectors today.
The congress also addressed how multiculturalism influences trade relations and how the economies of the Dominican Republic and the United States are intertwined in a global context that demands adaptability, innovation, and strategic cooperation.
This event established itself as a key platform for strengthening international cooperation ties and exploring the latest trends in international business, fostering a space for exchanging ideas and creating strategic alliances between academic, governmental, and business institutions.
